23rd March 2020
Dear Strathalbyn Football Club Participants and The Greater Strathalbyn Community,
I write today to provide you an update regarding the Strathalbyn Football Club (‘SFC’) response to the effects of Coronavirus and its implications regarding the 2020 GSFL Football Season.
On Tuesday 17/3/20 the SANFL recommended that all Community Football competitions across SA be postponed until 31st May. This includes all training sessions. The message from the SANFL is that the health and well-being of fans, players, umpires, officials and communities have been the number one priority throughout this decision-making process.
Effective immediately on 17/3/20 we announced that all training and club activity be suspended based on the SANFL and Great Southern Football League advice we had received.
On Thursday 19/3/20 the SFC Management Committee held an emergency meeting to discuss pathways moving forward.
Although we are disappointed that we cannot be out on the oval doing what we enjoy, the SFC fully supports the considerations to the well-being of our local community and greater society that we have a responsibility to.
For those that have paid registration and membership fees or used School Sports Vouchers, we are aware that changes to the length of the season may require adjustments to these fees. Once certainty has been provided moving forward, we will amend accordingly.
As of 22/3/20 the Strathalbyn Football Club facility is closed to the public until further notice. This includes our bar, kitchen and change rooms. It is unknown at this time when our facility will be again open to the public.
It appears that we will have friends, members, supporters and businesses with connections to our club that will be challenged by the outcomes which may arise from this extraordinary period.
As always and more importantly now, please consider using our sponsors businesses and look after each other.
The SFC will continue to be advised by the direction of the Great Southern Football League, SANFL & AFL along with government and public health authorities.
We commit to providing you updates as more information becomes available.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our club at P.O. Box 320, Strathalbyn SA 5255 or email secretary@strathfootyclub.com.au
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Regards,
Brenton Smith
